How to wear, use & care for your Manka piece
Simple, traditional steps for Rudraksha, malas, bracelets and spiritual gifts. Each product page also has its own guide.
Cleanse gently
Rudraksha and malas: a few drops of Gangajal or raw milk, then wipe dry (please do not soak). Stone bracelets, idols and gifts: wipe with a soft, dry cloth.
Choose a calm moment
Many people begin on an auspicious day after the morning bath: Monday (Shiva’s day) is traditional for Rudraksha; for other pieces, any day that feels right to you.
Set your intention
Hold the piece in your palms, light a diya or incense and chant “Om Namah Shivaya” or the mantra you follow, traditionally 108 times. A mala’s 108 beads help you keep count.
Wear, place & care
Take bracelets and malas off before bathing, sleeping and exercise; keep them away from perfume and soap. Place idols and gifts on a clean altar or puja shelf.
- Rudraksha
Worn as a pendant or bracelet, touching the skin. Oil lightly with a drop of sesame or coconut oil now and then if it looks dry.
- Malas
Used for japa: move one bead at a time with the thumb and middle finger, starting next to the guru bead. Keep it in its pouch.
- Bracelets
Roll it on and off instead of stretching the thread. Usually worn on the right wrist, or whichever feels right in your tradition.
- Spiritual gifts
Place idols and décor on a clean, raised spot such as the puja shelf, ideally facing east or north as Vastu suggests. Dust with a dry cloth.
